First visit of the MEDEA Project to Primary Schools in Cyprus
Within the framework of the MEDEA research project and the collaboration of Medical School of the University of Cyprus with the 1st Lakatamia Primary School, the school will host a set of oral presentations given by staff and students of the Medical School to the schoolchildren and their parents. More specifically, the first presentation will take place on Wednesday March 14th and will be titled "Nutrition and Health” and the second will be held on Tuesday, March 20th on the topic "Children’s Respiratory Health".
During the first presentation, students will be advised about healthy eating and exercise habits. In collaboration with the School’s Parents' Association, students will be offered a healthy breakfast. During the second visit the medical staff and students will explain with examples and images the importance of respiratory health, with reference to the various factors that may affect pediatric respiratory health and to the different ways children can protect their respiratory system.
The implementation of this initiative is part of the actions of the European research project MEDEA which aims to reduce the adverse effects of desert dust storms and exposure to associated atmospheric pollutants on human health, especially within vulnerable groups such as children. The A’ Lakatamia Primary School will participate in the pilot phase of the project, which includes the completion of a questionnaire on the respiratory health of children.
